Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the attack as part of a "new wave of counteroffensive actions" by Russia, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing conflict. The assault, which began with intense shelling on Thursday night, prompted the deployment of Ukrainian reserve units to the northern Kharkiv region to confront the advancing Russian forces.
According to statements from Ukraine's Defense Ministry, Russian reconnaissance groups, supported by armored vehicles, initiated a cross-border push around 5:00 am local time.
