Republican Congressman Rich McCormick of Georgia confirmed his relationship with fellow Republican Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne from north Texas. This announcement comes in the wake of McCormick's recent divorce filing from his wife of 12 years, Dr. Debra Miller, an oncologist.
McCormick filed for divorce on May 3, citing an irreparable breakdown in the marriage. This filing followed increasing speculation about his relationship with Van Duyne, fueled by sightings of the two engaging in intimate behavior on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The couple had been observed displaying affection during a House Republican caucus meeting, including holding hands beneath a table and showing other signs of closeness in the House chambers. Dr. Miller hinted at a possible affair, suggesting that inquiries be directed to McCormick and his colleague.
Van Duyne offered little comment on the alleged affair. "His marriage has been over for quite some time, as I understand it. He’s filed for divorce. I’m single. We’re both parents of adult children and empty nesters. We are happily engaged in a relationship, and beyond that, it’s a personal issue," she stated.
McCormick is the father of three boys. Van Duyne is a single mother of two children.
